What previous work
experience would I need?
When
applying for a position on a cruise ship, qualifications may be the
least of your worries. In the cruise industry different factors seem to
take priority. For most jobs onboard, you do NOT require
any cruise ship experience at all, however a pleasant
personality and great social skills are a must. If you are persistent,
enthusiastic and willing to learn, you stand a very good chance of
getting hired. (for specialized positions such as
Hairdressers, Diving Instructors, DJ's, etc., you do need some relevant
experience or qualifications)
What is the general lenght
of employment?
Employment contracts range anywhere from 3 months to 12
months. However, the contracts, in most cases are mutually
renewable and long term career progression is always encouraged! It is
common in the industry that a great majority of crew members only aim
to work for 6 to 9 months. This is good news for new comers into the
industry, as it always creates a huge number of vacant positions
throughout the year ... 100's New Jobs every
day of the Week!
How
would I get paid?
When you work
on a Cruise Ship, you will have an account with the Pursers Office (on
board), where your earnings will accumulate, however, you'll
be able to obtain your weekly pay-out in cash
or have it wired straight into your Bank Account in your home country. (in
Australia, New Zealand, U.K., USA, Japan or anywhere in the world)
To obtain your weekly pay you will only need your signature and your
Crew Card.
Couples
or Friends Working together!
It
is possible for a Couple or Friends to end up working on the
same ship - the chances of this are pretty high as it happens pretty
often.
